Apps
Here’s some apps I downloaded to my phone to check out for travel (for the record, I own an iphone8):
- 1. Google Photos
- 2. Lonely Planet Guides
- 3. My TSA
- 4. Google Trips
- 5. Google Maps
- 6. App in the Air
- 7. Airbnb
- 8. Groupon
- 9. Flush
- 10. Southwest Airlines
- 11. Turo
- 12. GasBuddy
- 13. AllTrails
- 14. My Trip List
- 15. Roadtrippers
- 16. maps.me
- 17. TX State Parks
- – I won’t recommend the Google Photos app. It sounds great on paper, but it uploads ALL your photos. Which is not handy for all those random pictures of dogs and squirrels you don’t want to save forever.
- – For our upcoming trip to Hawaii, I downloaded Lonely Planet’s Honolulu and Oahu city guides to see what things there are to do nearby that I might of missed.
- – MyTSA: This app is GREAT for finding out what you need to pack in your carry on or luggage. You can look up items by simply typing it in and you can even ask TSA a question on their chat mode screen. You can also download your local airport for checkpoint wait times. As someone who doesn’t frequently fly, this app answered a lot of questions easily for me.
- -Google Trips: I like to have all my Google apps and programs integrated together. You can download them offline and look for things to do, day plans, local discounts, restaurants, and it keeps your reservations from airlines or Airbnb if they were sent to your google email.
- – Google Maps is the best for mapping out a trip under my places. You can see how to do all that here: https://roamingtheamericas.com/guide-google-my-maps-trip-planning/ I also love to rate on Google as a local guide.
- -App in the Air claims to be your personal travel assisstant. It does the same thing as Google Trips though.
- – Airbnb: a must to keep up with communication with your hosts, but it even shows you fun things to do near your place that you can favorite.
- – I’m not a big Groupon user but I’m willing to try it when traveling for discounts.
- – Flush: I found out about this app on Reddit when people claimed it was great for finding the nearest toilet. I’ll have to see how well it works in places like Maui.
- – Most airlines have their own app, I downloaded it to keep track of my flight number and boarding info.
- – Turo is like an Airbnb but for cars. I’m considering trying it out in Maui for a decent car.
- – GasBuddy: I’ve read that Hawaii is not only expensive, but that gas stations are not easy to come by on certain parts of the islands. I don’t want to be stuck running out of gas and missing out on beach time!
- – I use AllTrails here at home but it’s good for unfamiliar trails too. It tells you if the trails are easy – hard, the length, how many feet, and you can get directions, reviews, and download the trail. This is how I found out which trails to avoid in Maui so I can plan accordingly.
- -My Trip List is one of the first apps I downloaded because it had a packing list and a to-do list you can customize, along with a notes and photos, but it pretty much does what Google Maps and Google Trips.
- – I plan to try Roadtrippers here locally before I put it to use in Hawaii. I’ll let you guys know how it worked.
- – I heard great things about maps.me because of it’s offline capabilities. Again, it’ll be put to the test in Hawaii.
- -Texas State Parks is very handy when I want to make a reservation, check weather, and see if any campsites are available in the state parks. It works just like the website in an easy to use format. For those road trips where you might have to stop for the night unexpectedly and need to see if there’s a site available.
Any other great apps I missed? Let me know!
