3rd Annual San Antonio Frozen Treats Fest

06/22/2019 – Dignowity Hill: Alamo Beer Company

The kiddo, her best friend, and I decided to venture out in the 99 degree heat and check out the Frozen Treats Fest at Alamo Beer Company, a really nice brewery on the brink of the east side which is recently being redone and remodeled (thanks to gentrification, a good and bad thing). Because the business’s parking lot was being used, we had to park in the street and walk. It gave us the opportunity to check out the new houses going up.

Alamo Beer is under the Hays Street Bridge, now famous for photos taking, yoga meets, and other Instagram-type activities.

Agua Frescas are perfect for this heat! Basically its real fruit flavored water!

I’ve had this cookie vendor before, Crave Cookies, and she does not disappoint! I bought my usual favorite, the chocolate chip and pecan ones and an avocado one she said won 3rd place. Something new, so gotta try it!

They sell popcorn too!

There was a taco truck but we wanted to skip it to try the desserts instead. Same story also went for a barbecue stand that was sold out already but had Dr. Pepper, so that made the kiddos happy.

The kiddos played it safe with shaved ice in Tiger’s Blood and Root Beer flavors, which were pretty good.

This van certainly lived up to it’s name with some great coffee smells, but I decided to hold off until it was time to go so I could get an energy boost when we left.

Translates to “Smells of Mexico”

The train entertained by coming by and rattling the grounds.

I’d heard a lot about Steel City Pops and their flavors; however, they had a limited selection but I did try their Strawberry Lemonade flavor and it was nice and refreshing.

Alamo Beer Company was very packed with people (and to our delight, doggies!) of all kinds.

If you wanted to brave the heat, you could go up on the Hays Street Bridge to check out the views:

But we weren’t that brave, and stayed inside to enjoy the house queso and chips. We especially appreciated the jalapeños in it and admired the way the fake succulent plants were in beer cans. I plan to make some like these with my (real) newborn ones I’m growing at home soon!

As we left, I stopped back at the little blue van which was called Olla Express, to get a cold iced mocha coffee. They had this charming sign that said Abuelitas (Spanish for grandmothers) drink free coffee! Which makes sense because they said they made coffee the way they do in Mexico.

We left with the sounds of this 80’s band who sounded exactly like the bands they played! Songs from The Cure were stuck in my head the rest of the evening.

Until the next event, smell ya later!
