Here’s my final thoughts of the apps I downloaded for the Hawaii trip:
- My TSA: so helpful in deciding where to pack things I bought and changing planes so many times
- Airbnb: helped me keep track of the 3 places I stayed at, plus made communicating with the hosts easy
- AllTrails: shows the length of trails in miles; this is how I decided that the trail to Cook’s Monument was going to be too much for the day.
- Southwest Airlines: excellent in boarding alerts, checking in online, and getting my confirmation number to get my boarding passes printed
- App In the Air: I liked how it organized my flights and Airbnb’s in one place, but the alerts would come in late so didn’t really work for me.
- Trippie: this was great when you’re in an airport and need to find your way around quickly. Without this app, it would have taken more time to find the right terminal at Sky Harbor to run to. It also tells you where food, ATMs, and stores are, can track your flights, and even show you exactly where you are in the terminal on a map.
- Culture Trip: like a magazine on the city you want to visit and what you can do with good ideas.
- Lonely Planet Guides: kind of like Culture Trip but organized by city and broke it down to lists like must-see and tickets and tours.
- Quickgets Geo: it was like peace of mind when we were traveling up elevations and isolated areas. It’s got a compass, the temperature, your current elevation, latitude and longitude, even your bearing and heading. It tells you the daylight and sunset to the exact minute, and you can change the type of maps it shows you. Wonderful for hiking alone too.
- Google Maps: I created my own my maps to mark places I wanted to see and the distance between them. It was also my GPS the entire time on the islands.
- My Trip List: if it had an easier way to organize everything together without me typing in myself, I’d probably use it more. But it’s literally like writing out your own itinerary by hand yourself.
- Flush: worked fine, but everywhere I went the restrooms were pretty easy to find so I really didn’t use it but once. I’ll have to try it on more remote places.
- Momento: my favorite app to use on this trip. It’s like a personal journal that timestamps your entries. Organizes your entries by date, month, and year, and you can create your own events however you want. You can even add photos, tags, places, and people to your entries. You can connect your social media to it, and there’s even a search bar to find all your entries with a key word!
I hope these tips helped and if anyone has some apps they use to travel, feel free to share!
