My first time to Oklahoma! Driving through it wasn’t as boring as I thought it would be. Many fields of the immense wind turbines that dot the fields and make me realize how large they really are.
On the way to Oklahoma City, I stopped at Washita Battlefield in Cheyenne.

The visitor center is a large, 2 story place that has great exhibits of the Native American items and the history of the battlefield.

This hallowed ground is where General Custard did a sneak attack on Chief Black Kettle in the Great Plains War in 1868. They do not do reenactments out of respect for those who lost their lives here. It is still unknown where Chief Black Kettle is buried. There’s park trails nearby and an overlook you can drive to.

After visiting, I made it to OKC and discovered the artsy Plaza District in the downtown area while foraging for a bite to eat.

It seemed like a college-y type hangout corridor, with hipster-like eats and treats. Lots of murals too, which are always a great treat. It reminded me of the Greenland Hills area in Dallas. So of course I checked it out.

My first stop was Mexican Radio, which I was dubious of being from the taco capitol of the USA. I promptly informed my mask-wearing waiter of this information in a veiled warning that this taco house hopefully lived up to its expectations. He smiled and offered the “house” item, the Fried Chicken Taco. Since I’ve never had one, I had to say yes.
Four dollars later, I’m finishing up one unique taco. Two chunks of fried chicken with sliced white onion, crispy pickles, and a honey sauce. I wished the breading would have been more flavorful, but it was still something different.

The sun is dipping down and the neon lights are starting to illuminate brighter. I take my soda to go and explore the storefronts right across the street.

I find an area named The Plaza, an artisan alley of murals. It’s colorful and whimsical, and after reading about it a bit, ever changing when other artists paint over them every so many years, which is neat but kinda sad knowing how much work goes into doing one!

The ice cream place, Roxy’s Ice Cream Social, right next door to Mexican Radio is too hard to resist and after admiring the bright decor, I decide on the Celebration Cake flavor, because who doesn’t like cake and ice cream together in one bite? It’s also been forever since I’ve had a ice cream in a cone, licked my fingers that were sticky with dessert, or even been out to a new place. I enjoy it while watching the sky’s colors swirl and change.

The next day it’s a quick 10 minute drive to downtown Oklahoma City to visit the Oklahoma City National Memorial. It’s too much to put on this section, so the next entry is dedicated to this outstanding museum.
Your camera work is really amazing. These look like such great adventures!
