November 2021
Before leaving, I had to check out the Meow Wolf installation Las Vegas version Omega Mart. Meow Wolf is an art instillation company that creates interactive and immersing art that are large in scale for the viewer to explore.
First, make sure you admire the sculptures outside the venue:
It’s around $50 to enter, and no cameras or large bags are allowed.
At first, it appears to look like an ordinary grocery store, similar to a big box type, including employees meandering around, until you start to pay attention to the labeling and placement of “items”:
Then things start to get really weird, like this blip in the scanning system of items:
And you can enter a secret door in the freezer:
To reveal a whole new world behind the Omega Mart!
The whole thing is like a satire on the conglomerate business and how the behind the scenes could be if it was shrouded in secrecy. Hidden tunnels and “secret” experiments, all with backstories to read about. The eerie music adds to the ambiance. But it’s just fun to wander around too, and you feel like you’re really underground. There’s things to touch and create, and even a slide to go down, which is kind of scary cause it’s very dark in the hole to go down! There’s lots of ways to find the hidden areas, so do some exploring, pull on things, you never know what you’ll find!
After spending hours, don’t forget to “check out” of the Omega Mart with some souvenirs and admire the store before you go:
I definitely recommend this place to anyone who is visiting Las Vegas, loves art, and wants a place to escape the heat!
